Latvian Journal Jūrnieks Features Erasmus+ Project SEA4SHORE

The Latvian Maritime Administration’s journal Jūrnieks (“Seafarer”) continues to provide comprehensive coverage of developments in the maritime industry both in Latvia and worldwide. Widely accessible through the Administration’s homepage and the websites of other leading maritime institutions, the journal serves as an important information source for the sector.

The latest issue (No. 3, 2025) includes an article on the Erasmus+ project SEA4SHORE which is designed to support seafarers who are considering a career transition ashore, ensuring their valuable maritime expertise continues to contribute to the wider industry.

Specifically, SEA4SHORE is developing a competency map for more than 120 shore-based career paths and an interactive online tool to help seafarers and students assess their skills and explore employment opportunities beyond seafaring. By facilitating recognition of seafarers’ qualifications in land-based roles, the project aims to strengthen career mobility across Europe and increase retention of skilled professionals within the maritime sector.

The full article is available on page 51 of Jūrnieks, Issue No. 3 (2025), accessible directly here.
